Celtic Harriers Thursday evening Trail Runs

  • Thur 29 April - around Lion's Head and Signal hill. Meet at Kloof Nek in the parking area on the left 100 metres above Kloof Nek itself (that is, near the bottom of Tafelberg Road).

Rules and Guidelines (from Patrick Cox)
The runs are open to absolutely anyone – even though they are organized under the auspices of Celtic Harriers, they are meant for any and every keen runner out there, so no need to be a club member at all, and no need to have any trail running experience.
The format is simple:
1)      Emails get sent out each week notifying you all of the upcoming runs as well as bits and pieces of local trail running info.
2)     You simply pitch at the particular venue for that week, and you will have the option of at least 3 groups to run in, with each group being lead by an experienced runner who knows their way around the mountain. So the 3 groups we have cater for:
a)     the gentle or beginner runner (6-7min/km);
b)     the medium paced runner (5-6 min/km);
c)     the more regular speedier runner (4-5min/km).
3)     The runs take anything from 50-70 minutes.
Please note the following:
-          The runs are never overly technical – in other words they never take in difficult or rocky terrain – almost always they are gravel roads, jeep tracks or good quality runnable single track. So they remain a “run” rather than a scramble.
-          Virtually all of our routes will be reasonably hilly. So be prepared for a variety of ups and downs on our routes.
-          If you can run a flat 10kms in anything between 35 and 70 minutes, there will be a group for you. If you are not yet able to run 10kms in 70 minutes, then we suggest you perhaps do a few training runs with a friend first.
-          We do request that runners stay in their particular group, so we do our utmost to ensure that no-one is ever left alone on the mountain.
-          Accidents can happen anywhere, any time, any place. Neither Celtics, nor any of the organizers or group leaders will be held liable for any accident or incident of any nature which leads to the injury or death of any person joining us for any of our runs.
As mentioned earlier, these runs are open to anyone, so please feel free to forward this email to anyone you know who might be keen to come along. There is no charge of any sort.
Should you prefer not to receive weekly emails in this regard, please just send an email to me with the word “unsubscribe”, and I will take you off the mailing list. Alternatively, if you would like to be added to the mailing list, please just send me an email asking me to add your name to the list.

Finally, feel free to pass this info on to anyone else you know who may be interested in joining a safe, social, regular, ± 1 hour run in the mountains. Anyone who wants to be added to the weekly mailing list for these runs can email me at "patcox (at) pcjm.co.za"

THURSDAY TRAIL RUNS DURING WINTER
Official Celtic runs will take the usual winter break from the end of April (and start again the first week of September), but that a couple of the regular group leaders, Denzil Abrahams and Ian McDonald, have offered to take Thursday groups through the midwinter months. If you want to join them, you will require headlamps and will need to get on to their mailing list. If you are interested, then just drop Patrick an email.
